"There Is Nothing Wrong With Your Television Set ..."
According to 2026/03/19 MSNBC article
"FCC greenlights Nexstar's $6.2B merger with rival TV station owner Tegna":
- FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said the agency waived a rule that bars a single company from owning TV stations reaching more than 39% of U.S. households.
- Less than one day prior, a coalition of attorneys general for eight states filed a lawsuit seeking to block the merger, arguing that it violates federal antitrust law.
- Anna M. Gomez, the lone Democrat on the FCC, criticized the opaqueness of the approval process, saying it occurred behind closed doors with no open process, no full Commission vote, and no transparency for the consumers and communities who will bear the consequences.
Commentator Melanie Darrigo observes:
- The president’s FCC waived a rule so his ally’s broadcast company can reach 60% of U.S. households.
- Between Nexstar and Sinclair Broadcasting, two of his allies will control 450 local stations, including news, in 95% of U.S. markets.
- The president’s billionaire allies now control X, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, TikTok, Truth and Twitch.
- They own Fox News, CBS, CNN, WaPo, WSJ, NY Post and the majority of local news stations.
- This is by design. The news will be what this regime says it is.
